How Long Does it Take to Eat Regularly After Implants Are Placed?

Dental Implants Goichi Shiotsu, DDS WA 98040-2985The responsibilities after getting a dental implant is not just limited to taking better dental health, but also making sure that your mouth and dental implant become accustomed to each other as soon as possible.

One way to make the transition faster is to be more conscious of what you eat, specifically taking softer and easier to chew food in the meantime. Your jaw and teeth will need some time to get accustomed to the dental implant, and eating hard food will increase the workload of your teeth and mouth instead of trying to accustom to the implants faster.

What Happens to the Teeth and Dental Implants

Whenever you get a dental implant, the body, specifically the jaws and the mouth, would have to accommodate the new sensation. This is very true if the dental implant is above the gums of your mouth.

This is because the distribution of force would be changed and your brain must keep up with the new changes or else there will be a negative impact on the implant.

A good rule of thumb is that two to three weeks of gentle and soft food is recommended if the dental implant goes deep under the gum tissues. This is because full integration of the dental implant is faster since your gums are relatively softer than your bones and teeth.

On the other hand, if the dental implant is above the gums, then it is advised to have a soft diet for at least one and a half months. It is also recommended that you do not chew on the side of your mouth where the dental implant is located for three months.

If you or your loved one needs help with dental implants or any other issues with your oral health, please drop by our clinic and let us help you get healthier and better teeth and gums.
