Can One Dental Implant Make That Much of a Difference?

Posted on 10/10/2019 by Dr. Shiotsu
Can One Dental Implant Make That Much of a Difference? There are quite a few people who believe that losing a single tooth makes no difference to your mouth. And, to be fair, depending on what tooth it is, it really doesn't, at least at first. It takes time for one tooth to do damage if it is all the way in the back where no one will notice it easily.

The problem is, that one little missing tooth can move around a lot of things in your mouth, and it can also harm your jaw and your gums. One dental implant in this type of scenario is all you need to restore your mouth to a healthier status.

What Does a Single Missing Tooth Really Do?

Even one missing tooth can make a huge difference in your mouth. That one tooth, when it comes out, leaves a space. That space allows for the teeth around the original tooth to move and shift around. As time goes on, those teeth move more and more in an attempt to close up that gap.

The gums that once held the root of that tooth in place, start to recede because they no longer have a function. That means that the bone beneath the gums also begins to deteriorate. This leaves a weak spot in your jaw. A weak jaw may not be the ideal candidate for a dental implant, so the longer you wait after losing that tooth, the harder the restoration process may become.

Interested to find out if you could have a healthier mouth from just one dental implant? Or perhaps you need a few dental implants to restore your mouth? Either way, we can help. Contact us today to set up a consultation and allow us to show you how your mouth could be better off from this one simple change.
