Situations Where a Root Canal is All That Can Save Your Tooth

Posted on 7/10/2019 by Dr. Shiotsu
Situations Where a Root Canal is All That Can Save Your ToothWe always try to save the natural teeth of our patients. It is a tooth that you cannot have replaced, even with an implant, because that could still feel slightly unnatural to your mouth. You have to find a way to solve the tooth issue without immediately pulling the tooth.

Usually, we will recommend a root canal be done before we pull the tooth if at all possible.

This will remove the pulp and nerves inside the tooth, leaving the outside cavity intact. We will then crown the tooth and allow you to have the normal, natural tooth minus the pain and decay found inside it. This is a procedure that is a bit lengthier than a filling, but provides our patients with a way to keep their teeth, which is always our ultimate goal.

Saving Your Tooth with a Root Canal

When the tooth has too much decay that has reached the bottom of the gum line and went too deep into the tooth, this can cause our patient a lot of pain. We work to remove the pulp and nerves causing this pain but try to keep the tooth intact.

If the tooth has already broken, we can still save the tooth and cap it. However, it does depend on how the tooth is broken on whether or not it can be saved. Our dentists can let you know the best course of treatment once they see the tooth in question.

If you're having issues with your teeth, always make sure to speak with our professional dental team. We can get you in for an appointment and make sure your smile is up to par. Give us a call today to learn more about the root canal treatments that might possibly save your tooth and your smile, without having to have your tooth pulled. Our dentists can give you a second opinion when it matters most.
