Preventing Pain from Dentures

Talk with Goichi Shiotsu, DDS if you have denture pain.
Dentures take some getting used to, no matter who gets them. They need to adjust slightly to your mouth, and your mouth needs to adjust as well. This can leave you facing sores and pain from your new dentures. If you want to prevent this type of pain, there are a few things you can do. Each of these options gives you more control over how to care for your mouth with dentures. Give each of them a try and see which works best for you.

Ways of Preventing Denture Pain

First, you need to adjust to them. It is often recommended that people wear them non-stop for 2-4 days after getting them, so your mouth is able to adjust. Once those few days are up, you will take them out and soak them nightly to give your mouth a break.

Second, you must keep your dentures very clean. They need to be brushed at least as well as you did your original teeth, if not better. They should be soaked in denture solution each night to boost how clean they are. This must be a regular occurrence, and not overlooked or neglected if you don't want denture pain.

Finally, you need to make sure that you care for your mouth when the dentures are out. This means rinsing your mouth with salt water if there are sore spots. This also means keeping your gums and any remaining teeth you have well cared for. Don't forget to care for your mouth just like you used to do before you lost your original teeth.

Dentures do not have to be painful. However, they do need to be cared for. If you take the time to adjust to your new dentures properly, and clean them regularly, the chances of you experiencing denture pain goes down significantly.
